    The Fan Man's Flashback! (December 2002/January 2003)

      The Fan Man's Flashback

As we remember the 10th anniversary of the "death" of Superman, The Fan Man has decided to flashback to that dark comic book day. It was a day that would live forever in comic book infamy! It was not just a single comic book, it became a multimedia event! Newspapers, television, radio and magazines were all reporting on the story that took the world by surprise! DC Comics did the unthinkable! DC "killed" the world's first and greatest superhero! Travel back to January 1993 as The Fan Man does the unthinkable: I open the polybagged version of one of the most shocking comic books of all time, Superman #75!

The Fan Man's Flashback! (November 2002)

      The Fan Man's Flashback

Artist Jim Lee is back in the news once again! After years of semi-retirement, Lee has returned in a big way, teaming up with Jeph Loeb on the monthly Batman comic book! Lee's art has breathed a whole new, exciting life into the world of Batman! This month The Fan Man flashes back to a time when Jim Lee breathed new life into the whole comic book industry. It was near the end of a decade. It was also the beginning of a new age of comic books. Soon to be gone were the days of story driven comic books. The days of artist driven comic books were soon to be upon us! Some would say that that artistic new comic book age began with an issue of The Uncanny X-Men illustrated by an at-the-time little known artist named Jim Lee! Join The Fan Man as we Flashback to the fall of 1989 to The Uncanny X-Men #248, Jim Lee's first take on the X-Men!

The Fan Man's Flashback! (October 2002)

      The Fan Man's Flashback
It's that time of the year when our thoughts turn to ghosts, ghouls and monsters! Forget Frankenstein's monster! Forget Dracula! Forget the Wolfman! Let's think about two of the baddest, modern day monsters: Friday The 13th's Jason and that chainsaw wielding Texan Leatherface! What would happen if these two psychos ever met up?! It's a question that horror movie fans have pondered for years! Little did you know that that question has been answered, not on the big screen, but within the pages of a comic book! It's the battle you could only expect to see on a pay per view! Definitely not for the kiddies, this is the psycho brawl for it all! It's The Fan Man's Flashback to Jason vs. Leatherface #1!

The Fan Man's Flashback! (September 2002)

      The Fan Man's Flashback
This month we all are reflecting back on that horrible day: September 11, 2001. Instead of remembering all of the sorrow and pain from that day, we elect to reflect on the real life heroes, the strength and the unity that got us all through that day and brought us to this point in time. Here at TheComicFanatic.Com, The Fan Man remembers. So this month, I have decided to use The Fan Man's Flashback to remember one of the touching comic books that was inspired by that heroism, strength and unity. A comic book that still makes my eyes misty even today. A comic book that's not even a year old. The comic book simply known as "The 9-11 Tribute Issue": Amazing Spider-Man #36.

      The Fan Man's Flashback
The year was 1980. Thankfully, disco was on its deathbed. That oh, so cool 80s pop music was still to come. The cool Spider-Man movie was still over 20 years on the horizon. We were saving our quarters - not for arcades, but for comic books! And The Amazing Spider-Man started the year off by turning 200 issues old! Spidey was completely powerless! Aunt May was dead?! And the man responsible for the Spider-Man we all know and love has returned to plague the Wall Crawler: the burglar who killed Uncle Ben! Flashback with The Fan Man to January 1980 for the double sized, thrill packed, revealing Amazing Spider-Man #200!
